Are Americans being forced into poverty?

I see upon a Yahoo News which a Federal Government is starting to start receiving it’s share out of a SSA checks if a comparison adult owes anything to a government! Things similar to defaulted home loans, tyro loans & any sort of debts which have been over 10 years aged & someway trustworthy to a bureaucratic system.
Is this because a banks & automobile companies have unexpected been taken over by a latest administration?
How have been comparison adults starting to live upon reduction but branch in to criminals?
Is a American Government perplexing to incite it’s people?
Suggested difficulty was LGBT!
Why all a Thumbs Down?
Each answer appears to have consequence in my eyes.

welcome to a socialist society. thank your new prez.
All they want is money.. which is stupid as all hell cause money mean nothing.. really its just paper….
We have firefighters, and police men who protect us.. you know save our lives.. and we use our taxs to pay for them… but if you need to go to the doctor o say for cancer… and you dont have insurance you are shat out of luck……..
So why dont we use our taxs to pay for our healthcare?.. you know to SAVE OUR LIVES… cause the goverment realized we can make alot of money so they can all have gold plated toilets…
Of course, it’s part of Obama’s new world order, socialist agenda
I reckon this administration thinks it knows better than the people who elected them. It doesn’t seem to matter what the people want, it only matters what the “government” wants and thinks is best for you and me. I really believe we are moving toward a socialist country. I am worried, if something doesn’t change soon, that there will be no more government for the people and by the people. Huge brother knows what’s best for you and me … sit down and shut up and do what you are told. Free elections will have no place in our society anymore.
i remember the last recession pretty much anyone with in close to 5 to 15 years of retirement were transferred to ridiculous places, or force to take early reduced retirement i always thought this had to happen every 15-20 years to make room for all these graduates looking for jobs..mother nature seems to be taking care of over population..what i don’t know is why they want to keep inventing life extending drugs, pay humongous prices for them then complain when they work..lol
Government needs a long over due reality check. They simply do not remember who they work for and who pays their salaries and benefits. I find it fascinating that some of Obama’s friends and appointees failed to pay federal taxes, but got off with just paying the taxes they owed, with NO interest and NO penalties. I doubt very much if any of us would get such preferential treatment. It’s that whole entitled, elitist mentality that is destroying us.
If they are trying to provoke us, it sure is working.
I reckon the government is going to provoke us a small too much if they keep going. We had to fight England for our freedom, and now it looks as if we are going to have to fight our own country.
the fed wants total control, people that cannot work and cost the government are undesirable. The U.S.A was started as a republic, the people controlled the wealth, the government was kept small and highly restricted. The people voted to increase the power and control over their lives, the country they built to get away from kings and dictators, they have changed to bring back what kept them restricted Reckon before you vote this privilege will be removed very soon ,
Gov jobs are more secure than the mass majority … this is a major problem. I suspect until gov reverses the spiraling deficit, excellent jobs in the private sector will remain scarce. Who would invest in America when gov can’t even balance it’s budget? Obama has recognized excessive gov spending as a problem but he’s not revealing the lack of accountability.
Yes, I feel like I’m being forced into poverty because I’m among those in the newly defined category “underemployed” but I’m thankful to have a job.
Gov has been provoking me for the last 9 yrs.
I liken the reluctance for gov to pt. to it self as the source of the economic turmoil to it’s war making machine in the recent past. Peace is what occurs when the war efforts fail.
The banks and car companies were taken over to save them from their own greed. I do not reckon in the history of the world there has been even greater greed. But the government was culpable. There were laws and regulations to protect us but the then administration just looked the other way. Many business practices were known to be very risky but they just went on. People knew that homes were way over priced but they felt it would last for them. Sooner or later it will catch up, it is with laws of physics (what goes up will come down). Lucky for me I got out before the crash came and stashed my money.
The companies are not owned by the government. They just owe money that they do not have to repay. Some may never pay. The current admin was left holding the bag. Something had to be done to keep the ship afloat. Now it seems things are coming back, but slowly.
I reckon the government should get the money back that they “loaned” to the huge corps. first at least before coming after the “small people.”
Seems in every society, it is the working class that is stuck holding the bag.
I feel it is ridiculous to go after student loans on retired people, as far as back taxes go, if a senior is that hard up for money that they only have their ss to live on, I reckon the government should cut them some slack and leave them in peace.
They must have some way to survive otherwise the tax payers will have to help them out anyways.
Before they could not take any money from debts over 10 years. I don’t really see it affecting today’s Sr. very much. Today’s young person that defaults on student loans and/or child support may be in for a surprise down the road. Remember these are loans of one sort or the other the tax payer coughed up, so now they have to be accountable. I don’t see this as socialist or terrible, but I never defaulted on any government loan. I’m assuming by foreclosed mortgage, they are talking HUD, again it was a tax payer loan. As for child support, kids grew up on welfare, that’s your money for some deadbeats child. I say sic ‘em. Kudos to Ancient Guy, brillant answer
This is not something the government is going to start doing in the future. The government has been doing that for years. And the money that the federal government is getting back is not its money — it’s your money (and my money). The money you and I paid in federal income taxes.
Too many students (especially law students) thought they figured out a way to beat the system. Well, surprise, surprise, they are now contributing to helping save the social security system. In my opinion, withholding a chunk of their social security benefits and using the money to pay their past due educational debt is one of the few brilliant things the government has done. I don’t feel sorry for these people at all. And I’m thrilled that they are now having to pay not only the principal, but also all the interest that has accumulated and continues to accumulate on that debt.
I remember reading a post on this forum from a disgruntled social security benefits recipient about the debt having more than doubled because of the interest. This written by an educated thief who thought it was ok to borrow the taxpayer’s money and not pay it back because the loan was from the government. Duh. It’s taxpayer money, plain and simple. And as for these people (now seniors) being forced to indulge in criminal activities to survive — well, er, I don’t reckon so. They already are criminals — thieves who stole money to go to college. They are just now being forced to pay back their debt in the best way possible. Other types of criminals are sent to prison. That makes a cost for taxpayers. Building and maintaining those prisons costs money. Withholding social security benefits doesn’t cost the taxpayer anything. Finally, the government has figured out a profitable way to deal with some of the criminals out there. And those criminals are the innocent looking seniors who have stolen from the taxpayers just as surely as criminals who walk into a bank with a gun in hand. It’s payback time! And as this tale and its outcome is told repeatedly, hopefully more and more people will choose to focus on being honest citizens rather than focusing on trying to beat the system. Paybacks are hell. Better to be honest from the start in my opinion.
Not at all. Why do some people reckon they can just live like there is no tomorrow. If we owe someone, we need to find a way to pay it, rather than letting others (who pay bills on time) foot the bill. I know many who have filed bankruptcy a few years back and they are right back in debt again. It’s not OK to sweep it under the rug because it’ll always haunt us later.
People are not paying bills. They are buying stuff left and right. Go to Walmart sometime and just look at all the junk they’re buying with plastic. THEN they go to the supermarket and whip out their food stamp card for a cart full of soft drinks, convenience foods and snacks. I don’t reckon I want to pay their debts, but that’s just me.
They have got to get us into poverty and desperate so the constitution can be changed along with several other major changes.
Is it Time the American Citizens take-on the problems made by “illegal aliens”?
The government isn’t, so whats left for us to do?
The’re going to back us[to far] into a corner and give us no choice but—-
V….lence
The way out of poverty is to have less children.
Here’s a question… So when does the government plot on paying back all the SSI they used for other programs and self interests about 20 plus years ago, plus the interest owed?

“Right now they’re getting behind because they’re having a 10% to 12% inflation rate and we give them a 2% increase, and they’re really hurting. I don’t want taxes on the Social Security benefits that they receive. I have a bill in that would secure the trust fund, where none of that money could be spent in the general revenues. So in many ways, the goal would be to get us out of this program that is a failure. It doesn’t work, and is going to bankrupt this country. The only way you can do that is save enough money, tide the people over, let the young people get out, because they’re going to be paying all these years and they’re not going to get anything. I probably have the only program that would really help the elderly because the money’s not going to be there. There’s no way these cost-of-living increases are ever going to keep up with their benefits and are never going to keep up with their cost of living. They’re decreasing. My program has a better chance of helping them than any other one. “
The feds have always had access to your tax return and bank accounts when you owe federal programs money so it would only make sense that they would take it out of SS too. Most people had these debts long before they became seniors and your obligation doesnt go away just because you age. I realize that its impossible to live on low fixed incomes but you can always appeal and get a reduction or forebearance.
So many people take from the government, promising at the time to repay it, and then just blithely default on it because the government hasn’t come to collect. This has been going on a long long time. And if everyone would repay what they owe the government, it would help pay off the deficits. Is it ethical to borrow money from the government and then never pay it back? You borrow money, you should pay it back. And if you don’t pay it back sooner, you then have to deal with your loan company deducting it from your paycheck–garnishing your wages (in this case, your SS check). Why is this incorrect? Why are you affronted by this? I know of so many people who took student loans while in college but once they were out of school, they just figured the government would never track them down so they didn’t bother paying it back–and they got excellent jobs and bought cars and condos and vacations and lived well, they could have paid it back, you had 10 years to do it in too at a honestly low interest rate. I paid mine off even though it meant scrimping and scrapping those first few years. Why is it ok if a person who knows they can’t afford to pay the mortgage on a house takes a LOAN from the government and then can’t pay it back, why is it incorrect now for the government to still expect payment and to get it via that person’s SS check? If you can no longer afford the payments on your house, then you have to go into an apartment; a loan company wouldn’t allow you to stay in a house you couldn’t make payments on. I don’t see why people reckon the government is suppose to just eat their debt.
We did this to ourselves by not using common since when voting this is what happens when you chose a party and become one of it’s pawns.
If you try to do anything about it you will be considered anti American, If you complain to much they will call you LIBERAL.
I saw what was coming and tried to tell everyone what would happen if this man was elected president. They didn’t listen and the country voted him in. If you voted for Obama, then I don’t want to hear it. I didn’t vote for him! We have to get him and the rest of the bent government officials out of office. My suggestion is to not vote for any incumbent in our next elections. Nearly everyone in there is bent. The only time they are telling the truth is when their mouths are shut.
