A student loan will always go directly to the school. If you have already paid the school all the money that they need, and there is $2000 extra…then the school will write out the check to give to you. Otherwise, the school wants to make sure that they get their money before giving you any back! You could purposefully question for too much money and receive it in a refund check (usually about 6-7 weeks after the semester starts is when you get the money back). If that isnt soon enough, consider taking out a personal loan…that money will come straight to you, but payments will also start straight away.
You can get a private student loan from Chase bank that will send the check directly too you. This only applies for private loans. Federal loans such as- Stafford loans- will always go directly to the school.
