You can use it for living expenses. Just be careful, particularly if it’s not subsidized. You will regret spending it on frivolous items later.

You do if you want to be paying off that “dorm stuff” for 10 years after you graduate from college. Trust me, you don’t want to be paying for posters and a lava lamp for that length of time. :-)

I would use it for tuition, fees, books and supplies and your dorm, meal plot, gasoline, insurance.. eyeglasses, misc medical expenses you might have. In other words, save as much of it as you can and live off it for as long as you can.

Loans should only be taken out as a last resort!!! Never take out a private student loan. Only borrow what you will need or you could end up like some who owe 70K + and have a degree in underwater nuclear basket weaving and no chance of earning enough money to pay it back.

I would use it specifically for tuition, books, and meal plans. Maybe on a laptop or other necessary college accessories. Be careful though with that loan, some people use it for things they don’t really need–and get used to spending money they don’t really have or spending on things not relating to the purpose of the loan. Dorm accessories may be alright to use. I used some graduation money and other gifts I received from friends and family to get most of my college accessories. Also, work things out with your roommate to minimize buying multiple things. See what the college offers also. I would highly recommend renting a micro-fridge if the college offers it (sometimes they come with the room).
